Foreign nationals, including many Egyptian workers, fled Libya as Col. Muammar Qaddafi tried to maintain his grip on the capital Tripoli. In the latest uprising to strike the Middle East, street protests which began in Eastern Libya spread to Tripoli, as opposition members called for Qaddafi to follow Tunisian president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali and Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and step down.
